1959 Austin
About This Car
This 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I was acquired as a project by its previous owner, who kept the car for more than two decades and oversaw work that involved a repaint in Florida Green and English white, a re-trim of the interior in beige, and a rebuild of the 2.9-liter inline-six. The car was then listed on BaT in October 2019 and acquired by the current owner later that year. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission, and the car has overdrive, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a Kenwood stereo, a beige soft top, and a tonneau cover. This 3000 Mk I is now offered by the seller on behalf of their spouse with a clean Colorado title in the owner’s name listing the car as a 1960 model. A repaint in Florida Green and Ivory White was completed under prior ownership, reportedly by Nunley’s Frame & Body of Greensboro, North Carolina. Body work was also performed at that time, and the brightwork was also redone. A beige soft top and coordinated tonneau cover are also fitted. Wire-spoke 15″ knock-off wheels are mounted with Lexington ES tires, and a spare is housed in the trunk. The car rides on revised rear springs and Bilstein shocks. The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in beige with contrasting piping, and the floors are lined with green carpets. A Kenwood CD player is mounted underneath the heater box. The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 92k miles, approximately 1k miles of which were added under current ownership. The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD6 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 137 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. A gear-reduction starter and a negative-ground 12-volt electrical system with an alternator were fitted under prior ownership. An oil drip is reported. The four-speed manual transmission is supplemented by a Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive unit
