About This Car

This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was refurbished under prior ownership and was purchased by the current owner in 2021. It is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and it is finished in Silver Gray Metallic over black MB-Tex upholstery. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a Blaupunkt AM/FM/SW radio, and a heater. Work since 2021 has included replacing the tires, fuel pump, power steering pump, brake booster, shock absorbers, exhaust system, and shift rod bushings. This W113 SL is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in Palm Springs, California, with service records, a car cover, a factory data card, and a clean California title in the owner’s name. The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq, and it was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was factory finished in Silver Gray Metallic with a black hardtop and hubcaps and was repainted under prior ownership. Exterior equipment includes a black convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, a retractable antenna, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights. The seller notes pitting on the top of the front bumper. The car is not equipped with a spare tire, spare tire cover, or tools. The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with body-color painted centers and are mounted with 185-section Michelin MXV-P tires that were installed in 2021. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. Service in 2023 included replacing the power steering pump, tie-rod ends, stabilizer bar bushings, steering damper, brake booster, and rear brake pads and rotors in addition to resealing the power steering gearbox and installing Bilstein shock absorbers. The bucket seats are upholstered in black MB-Tex that extends to the door panels. Inter
