1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D for sale on BaT Auctions

This 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D is one of approximately 1,331 examples manufactured during a single year of production and was built on November 4, 1958. The car was refurbished between 2021 and 2022 and is powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. It has been repainted green over brown leather and is equipped with a beige soft top, 15″ ventilated steel wheels, body-color bumpers, and bucket seats. A compression test was performed and the spark plugs replaced in preparation for the sale. This 356A Convertible D is now offered by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, in Zionsville, Indiana, with a copy of the Kardex, a 2021 California Porsche Restorations (CPR) sale document, and a clean Tennessee title. Convertible D models were produced between 1958 and 1959 with coachwork contracted to Karosseriewerke Drauz in Heilbronn, Germany, hence the “D” model designation. All 1,331 were sold as 1959 models, and notable differentiations included roll-up side windows and a windshield that was 3″ taller than the Speedster’s. This example came finished from the factory in Ruby Red and was repainted green during the refurbishment. Features include a Beige soft top, Speedster-style side trim, and body-color bumpers. The 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear Porsche-crested hubcaps and are mounted with 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner. The hubcaps were inspected and their date codes identified as “LF 759, RF 1162, LR 1262, and RR 1062.” The fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in brown leather, and beige squareweave carpets line the floors.
