About This Car

This Porsche 911 GT2 R is one of a reported 10 examples built in 1997 and was first owned by Dutch driver René Snel, who campaigned the car in the 1998 Super Car Cup series, finishing third overall in the season. Following a crash at TT Circuit Assen in August 1999, the car was fitted with a replacement body shell before being driven by Snel in the 2001 Euro GT Series. It was later purchased by Klaus Abbelen, Euro GT Series champion and co-founder of the Frikadelli Racing team. Refurbishment work in Germany in 2017 involved installing a replacement forward chassis shell, firewall, and floor panels, and the car was imported to the US by the selling dealer in 2025. It is finished in white and features a replacement twin-turbocharged flat-six and a six-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes an aluminum intercooler, a Bosch Motronic ECU, an HJS Motorsport exhaust system, Brembo brakes, 18″ center-lock wheels, a Matter roll cage, and a Sparco seat. This 993 GT2 R is now offered being offered as a non-running project in Dripping Springs, Texas, with spare parts, Porsche documentation, partial refurbishment records, a Wagenpass, and a bill of sale. The 993 GT2 R was based on the 993 Turbo, but utilized a rear-wheel drive layout as well as an alloy rear subframe with a double-wishbone suspension setup, riveted fender flares, an aluminum hood and doors, and a “banana” biplane rear wing. Additional factory weight-saving measures led to the car weighing approximately 485 pounds less than the road-going 993 Turbo. Delivered from the factory in Grand Prix White, the car received a replacement body shell following the August 1999 on-track crash. In 2017, it was stripped to bare metal and repainted following the installation of a replacement front clip, firewall, and floors by Peter Holzner of Waldkraiberg, Germany. Additional details include a front spoiler, an external oil filler, 935-style side mirrors, polycarbonate side and rear windows, and a vented rear bumpe
